The day before (13 December), I went for a swim in the mid afternoon and saw a Kingfisher in the bushes/trees to the south side of the dock. I was ready to get out (after 12 minutes at 5C), but it was amazing to see a Kingfisher up close (in person) for the first time. I'm so glad I bought corrective lens swim goggles last month or I'd never have noticed that I was swimming 10 feet from the Kingfisher.
Wow that's great! I rarely catch sightings like that as I swim without my glasses, so I should probably invest in a pair of prescription goggles as well. 12 minutes? That's pretty impressive, I bet it was below 5c as well, the board doesn't always get changed when the temp drops!
